  • the Census reported that in July the US saw a whopping 654K new home sales, up 12.4%, from the prior month and higher by 31% from a year ago, smashing expectations of a 580K print,

  • What was most notable about the series is that while there was no sequential change in houses sold in the West, which were flat at 137K in July, the south posted a massive 18.1% jump in the month, up 40% from a year ago,

  • Following the eurozone’s disappointing drift lower in Manufacturing PMI (and weakness in German Services), August’s US preliminary manufacturing PMI printed a disasppointing 52.1 (against expectations of 52.6). Weakness in Employment (lowest in 4 months) and New Orders underpin the drop from 52.9 to 52.1 as the 2 month hope-fueled bounce has faded…
  • Renaissance over…

CLSA: “The Bank Of Japan Has Nationalized The Japanese Stock Market”

  •  the BOJ that it would double its ETF purchases to ¥6 trillion, or $58 billion, up from the current ¥3.3 trillion, which is the equivalent to the Fed purchasing $580 billion in ETFs

  • BOJ is nationalizing the stock marketbecause that is precisely what it is doing with every incremental intervention in the stock market.
  • ,the Japanese market’s performance would become increasingly a function of liquidity in the central bank’s buying basket.  l, the BOJ’s purchases have an even stronger tendency to distort the market than the central bank’s ETF purchases, Deutsche Bank said.
  •  “Bank of Japan’s near doubling of its purchases of Tokyo shares is causing investors to worry the central bank will dominate financial markets, which could lead to price distortions as it continues to grease the economy.” the market is driven completely by the BOJ’s buying rather than views on each companies’ earnings,”

Private Placement: European Companies Issue Debt Simply Because the ECB will Buy That Debt

Debt Seller’s Paradise

  •  the ECB is buying private placement debt with little regard for safety. In turn, private equity companies issue debt simply because they know in advance the ECB will buy it.
  • It’s a startling example of how the market is adapting to extremes of monetary policy, and it’s a safe conclusion the experiment will not end well.
  • The ECB only announces what it will buy, not how much of it. Yet, that has spawned a guessing game driving yields lower and lower.
  • As soon as the ECB does buy an issue, the interest rate on those bonds collapse. And now we see private placement of debt, specifically designed with the ECB in mind.
  • QE is supposed to spur lending and investment. In practice, it’s killing pension plans while fostering bond bubbles.

“It’s Gone” – Why Foreign Demand For US Treasuries Has Disappeared

  • Last week’s TIC data confirmed something the Fed’s Treasury custody account has indicated for the past several months: foreign demand for US government bonds has not only tumbled, but there has been aggressive selling.

  •  in the past 12 months foreign central banks have sold a gargantuan $335 billion in US Treasuries (and $242 billion when looking at all foreign transactions including private).

Proof Positive the “Recovery” is a Myth

  • Receipts from the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA) have been falling steadily since 2012,according to the Office of Management and Budget, moving counter to the growing number of people employed. The FUTA tax is levied at 6 percent on the first $7,000 of an employee’s wage
  • . Since 2012, unemployment tax receipts have been FALLING. If the US economy was indeed creating jobs, this number should be rising.
  • Why is this number falling… particularly when the unemployment number is supposedly below 5% and job growth is great?
  • . The BLS numbers are either wrong or the quality of new jobs created must be very poor. The latter response seems the most credible; a combination of an increase in the proportion

China has launched it’s 11th CARRIER KILLER DESTROYER,

Type 052 class elite Guided Missel Destroyer

Equipped with the YJ-18 Long Range

Supersonic ANTI-SHIP Missile.

The YJ-18 missile can cruise at about 600 miles an hour, or just under the speed of sound, only a few meters above the surface of the sea and then, about 20 nautical miles from its target, accelerate to as much as three times the speed of sound, according to an Oct. 28 report from the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

“The supersonic speed makes it harder to hit with on-board guns,” according to Larry Wortzel, a member of the commission. “It also makes it a faster target for radars.”

‘Serious Implications’

The YJ-18’s speed and long range, as well as its wide deployment “could have serious implications for the ability of U.S. Navy surface ships to operate freely in the Western Pacific” in the event of a conflict, the commission found.

A Lot Of Indicators Say Something’s Not Right

  •  Michael Pollaro, keeper of the TMS series and a keen observer of the economy, reveals the following
  • Something very strange has recently happened with the national manufacturing ISM data. Not only are they regularly at odds with the PMI data released by Markit, but they are also at odds with numerous other data points.
  • Looking at the ISM new orders and industrial production.we have seen  similar bounces after several very weak readings occurred shortly before the most recent two recessions started. These bounces turned out to be head fakes

  • 3-Head Fake Real Gross Private Domestic Investment (RGPDI) is the most reliable leading indicator of US economic recession. Its trend has always reversed from up to down in advance of a recession (there have been no false negatives) and only in advance of a recession (there have been no false positives).

4-Real Gross Private Domestic Investment

  • A significant trend change in RGPDI has occurred. This is a major recession warning.
  • Lets look at  total business sales to the payrolls as well as the household employment report. Since business sales simply add actual dollar revenues, we would contend that it must be the employment data that are problematic.

  • 6-Biz sales vs employmentTotal business sales (red line) vs. establishment payrolls (blue line) and household employment survey (green line) – a widening, and by now credibility-stretching gap

What Venezuela’s diaper shortage says about the country’s economic crisis

  •  in the midst of a crippling economic crisis, diapers can become a hot commodity that spurs a thriving black market.
That’s what’s happening in Venezuela, where the country’s only major export, oil, has lost half its value in the past two years. The health care system is collapsing. Crime rates are soaring. Venezuelans are afraid to leave their homes at night. They’re lining up at supermarkets for hours to get their hands on basic goods and foods. It’s a desperate situation caused, in part, by a string of failed government policies.

Obama’s Operation Choke Point

  • Operation Choke Point is an initiative of the United States Department of Justice that was announced in 2013, under fellow “club member” former Attorney General Eric Holder, which states that their purpose is “investigating banks in the United States and the business they do with payment processors, payday lenders, and other companies believed to be at higher risk for fraud and money laundering,” but which instead is used as an openly unconstitutional weapon in the hands of tyrannical Plutocrats behind the scenes within the US Government and in the Military Industrial Complex security establishment to shut down, without warning or due process, any and all businesses deemed to be enemies of their political and militant agenda.
  • Certain banks and merchant services, are apparently shutting down credit card acceptance services of businesses all over the country, accused of going after targeted businesses and individuals who are in competition with other favored businesses in their same locale, so as to “cut out the competition,” using the federal US Government to do so.
  • Operation Choke Point, the Justice Department’s targets have included vendors of firearms and fireworks”

US Think Tank Admits US Carving Out “Safe Havens” in Syria

  • Since the onset of the war in Syria, corporate-financier funded think tanks engineering American and European foreign policy made it clear that establishing no-fly zones and “safe havens” in Syria would be an incremental step toward achieving regime change and rendering the nation divided and destroyed as US policymakers had done to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya beforehand.
  • The Brookings Institution has – for years now – published paper after paper regarding the establishment of such “safe havens” in Syria
  • As early as 2012, in a Brookings paper titled, “Assessing Options for Regime Change,”

An alternative is for diplomatic efforts to focus first on how to end the violence and how to gain humanitarian access, . This may lead to the creation of safe-havens and humanitarian corridors, which would have to be backed by limited military power. This would, of course, fall short of U.S. goals for Syria and could preserve Asad in power. From that starting point, however, it is possible that a broad coalition with the appropriate international mandate could add further coercive action to its efforts.

  • Brookings had hoped that the corridors and safe havens would provide a foothold from which additional covert and overt Western military power could be wielded to ultimately overthrow the government in Damascus and render Syria a perpetually divided and destroyed nation
  • The Safe Haven Plan, V.2
  • In regards to carving out safe havens, Brookings would claim in its recent paper the following

The Kurds are making gains in Syria’s northeast, for instance, as are some forces on the southern front—so, if the United States, in cooperation with its allies, accelerates and intensifies its involvement on the ground in those areas, safe havens can essentially emerge. An important advantage of this approach is that it doesn’t require putting American credibility on the line, but does help local allies build up and reinforces successes on the ground.

  • It should be noted that for several years now, the US has incrementally revealed the scope US troops have been playing on the ground in Syria. this will ‘intensify and accelerate’ their activities so desired safe havens can simply “emerge.”
  •  The presence of Russian aircraft in the skies over Syria, the presence of Russian troops on the ground, and the expansion of Russian activities across the country poses a problem for the US to carve out its “safe havens.”

Putin Senses Syria Victory to Cement Assad, Confound U.S.

  • Vladimir Putin may be on the cusp of a pivotal victory in Syria’s civil war that would make it much harder for the U.S. to achieve its stated goal of ousting Bashar al-Assad without a major military escalation.

Cyber Attacks

Obama prepares to boost U.S. military development of cyber weapons

  • Obama administration is preparing to elevate the stature of the Pentagon’s Cyber Command, signaling more emphasis on developing cyber weapons to deter attacks, punish intruders into U.S. networks and tackle adversaries such as Islamic State,
  • Under the plan being considered at the White House, the officials said, U.S. Cyber Command would become what the military calls a “unified command” equal to combat branches of the military such as the Central and Pacific Commands.
  • Cyber Command would be separated from the National Security Agency, a spy agency responsible for electronic eavesdropping, the officials said. That would give Cyber Command leaders a larger voice in arguing for the use of both offensive and defensive cyber tools in future conflicts.
  • The Pentagon acknowledged earlier this year that it has conducted cyber attacks
  • “We are dropping cyberbombs. We have never done that before,” Deputy Defense Secretary
